Unearthed from the tomb of Zhu Ran (d. 249) near Ma’anshan, Anhui in 1984. Such lacquer vessels continued to be popular during the succeeding Jin dynasty. The ingenious design was truly remarkable and is still being applied in making utensils today, because of its practicality.

Unearthed from the tomb of Zhu Ran near Ma’anshan, Anhui in 1984. Fabulous beasts, birds and figures were finely and densely needle-incised with great fluency on cloud scroll ground; exquisite in effect.
